Our Nobilitas Year 9 students were involved in a traditional Boonwurrung Welcome to Country Smoking Ceremony led by Jayden, a Boonwurrung man.

This ceremony marked the beginning of our ‘World Around Us’ unit this Term, in which students explore the place in which they live, beginning with the Indigenous connection to Melbourne and Port Philip Bay.

After the Smoking Ceremony, students participated in a half-day workshop led by Jayden about Boonwurrung values, customs, creation stories and language. The activities led by Jayden deepened our students sense of community and understanding of connection to country.
