Celebrating our Cricket Stars

In the depths of a Melbourne winter, we dream of the warm summer days where in parks all over Melbourne we would hear the crack of cricket balls hitting willow as games of cricket unfold.

At St Mary’s College, being part of the cricket team is a tradition enjoyed by both girls and boys. Our students love the sport and represent us proudly. Our Senior boys team this year won the ACC Division 2 Grand Final. Our Girls Team were runner up in the SCSA Indoor Cricket Grand Final an incredible effort as the inaugural girls Indoor Cricket team at St Mary’s College.

Of special mention are two St Mary’s students who both made ACC T20 Team of the Year. Matt Luxford, a keen cricketer who joined the CBC Cricket team in Year 7, who has continued playing each year and strengthened his skills, developing into an allrounder, this year with 156 runs @31.65, and wickets @ 11.5.  Now in Year 12 his cricket skills have been recognized with selection to the ACC T20 Team of the Year.

Luke Destito had an exceptional year of cricket too with 295 Runs @73.75 also is a proud representative of the ACC T20 Team of the Year. His Cricket talents were further recognized by also being awarded the ACC 2021 Most Outstanding Performer – T20 Cricket - Division2.

Nominations for the Team of the Year are accumulated from ACC Sport Coaches over the rounds and reviewed by Directors of Sport. Being nominated for the Team of the Year recognises exceptional skills in the sport and is a well-regarded honour for the athlete and the school.
